.........Rock Revival

The band name and album title are only partially ironic. On their previous releases as Crystalized Movements, and then as half of the Magic Hour with Damon & Naomi and part of the jam band Vermonster (probably the best band ever named after a Ben & Jerry's ice cream concoction), Wayne Rogers and Kate Biggar were just as likely to lean toward the spacy-floaty side of psychedelic guitar rock as not. The Rock Revival, however, is entirely true to its name: These four extended tracks are full-on hard rock jams, featuring extended skronky guitar solos, wah-wah-inflected Hendrix-ian guitar solos, piercing metallic guitar solos, and what-on-earth-is-that-noise guitar solos, occasionally all at the same time. Drummer Tom Leonard (Luxurious Bags) and bassist Dave Lynch (Vermonster) stick to the pummeling rhythms, leaving the rest of the sonic field open to Rogers and Biggar to freak out in to their hearts' delight. The over the top 17-minute climax, "The Deep End," is a must-hear for any fans of extended psychedelic guitar duels, but the entire album will appeal to anyone with fond memories of Blue Cheer, Television, or the Bevis Frond.
