...Excellent

On their fourth LP, these Hessian metal punks slow down the pace ever so slightly and embrace the doomier side of their sound. Maybe they were smoking more pot during the recording of this, instead of going for the adrenaline rush of amphetamines that usually infuses their work. Regardless of what they were taking, Death’s Procession is another fine slab of metal from a perpetually underrated band.

Opening track, “The Eye Obscene” introduces the bands new focus with crunchy riffs and a more deliberate pace, while “To The Grave Possessed” has a ’70s boogie rock vibe. “Crete’n” and “God’s End” harken back to the speedier roots of the band, while “Earth’s Possession, Death’s Procession” is a hard rocking instrumental that manages to excite rather than bore. But this is just a sample of some of the songs on the disc. It is an excellent listen from the first track to the last. The killer leads (courtesy of guitarist Sonny Reinhardt) color these songs, further bringing them closer to the realm of heavy metal heaven or hell, depending on your preferences in theology.
