Mental and physical contours are merging. Connectivity between individuals, humanity, and nature pervade the shifting landscape, either through direct cause-and-effect or remote interaction; with increasing speed, narrow actions possess the potential for immense influence and inversely cumulative events manipulate finite outcomes. My work explores the pivotal psychology and physiology of those incongruous relationships.
Influenced equally by nature, pop culture, and art history, my work combines the three with broad formal and conceptual latitude in two and three-dimensional space. Paint and marks become spatial, and sculptures flatten into the wall. Potent fragments from our discordant collective conscious entwine with my own conviction to create imagery that seems both ubiquitous and rarified. Recurring motifs of corrupted landscapes, lovers, personified abstractions, anthropomorphic animals, spiritual vehicles, dislocated shadows, suspect food, supernatural masks and broken totems exude contemporary angst with the conflicted disposition of a comic tragedy or macabre romance.
My amorphous aesthetic is a gut response to the saturated visual landscape, littered by the flotsam of search engines and divergent histories, in which singularity and originality are instantly linked and consumed by a maelstrom of associations. This method abandons conventional ideas of artistic continuity, based on developing a unique perspective through similarity and sequential logic within a given technique and medium, for a more instinctive, pluralistic approach, which relies on the mind’s innate ability to process and form a unified understanding from varied, simultaneous information sources. Without the weight of maintaining a style, genre, or form, I am able to suspend classification and disrupt associations long enough to establish genuine expressions that convey the vacillant nature of an individual’s relationship to collective influence and vice versa.
Lovingly Taken From; Inevitably, Super Vacations’ songwriting is sketchy and indistinct in comparison to the heights scaled on a daily basis by Ohio’s finest in the mid-’90s, but nonetheless, they’ve got a good handle on the kind of sound they’re going for, and the material at hand is up to the task, allowing them to stand proud alongside the very best of the ’90s neo-psych-pop mob (Lilies, The Swirlies, pre-ego meltdown Brain Jonestown Massacre etc.) without ever having to venture beyond their basement. Delayed staccato melodies echo around saturated electronic drumloops and synthesized strings as the track builds slowly into a celebration of pure electronic sounds - although this might pre-date the whole electronica explosion this track for me is far beyond anything produced since. The fun doesn't stop here though, before too long we're into the proto-electro 'Caramel', which probably wouldn't sound out of place on Aphex Twin's 'Analord' series of records, except that it's really good, of course. It's not all pop music though, as with all good Kraut-rock records there's enough atmospheric, psychedelic weirdness to keep all the bearded legion happy - 'Rote Riki' for instance is a masterclass in dissonant electronic submergence, all drowned, wobbling analogue bleeps and stumbling pops and clicks, and elsewhere 'James' takes a blues guitar riff and destroys it totally resulting something that sounds closer to Jandek than John Lee Hooker. Simply put, if you're interested in electronic music and fancy hearing where the hell it all came from you need to give this album your full, undivided attention, it's not just a history lesson though, the record still stands as one of the all time essentials of the genre. Inovative from start to the end, "Rot" is the pearl of German early days in electronic / avant progressive music. The ambiences created are really haunted, soaring and weird. Globally we can considered this work as an original mixture between German's spacey (synth) rock music (in the genre of Schulze on his two first solo efforts) and contemporary electro- acoustic music of Tod Dockstader, Morton Subotnick. Possibly the finest piece on the whole set, 'Kites' operates in a similar fashion, with loose, impressionistic key-work and distant strings melting seamlessly into an electroacoustic sonic environment. The Los Angeles Times called the record “without doubt the Keys’ most dynamic effort yet”; Pitchfork called it their “most adventurous album to date”; and the Boston Globe said, “Tossed in among the mid-tempo grooves are straight-ahead rockers …, all snarl and swagger, and delivered with an off-kilter tension reminiscent of the early Keys’ two-dudes-in-a-basement sensibility. Initial collaboration began when Danger Mouse (a.k.a. Brian Burton) approached the band to write songs for an album he was developing with the late R&B legend Ike Turner. As singer/guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney began composing tracks for Turner early last year, they quickly realized they were actually laying the groundwork for a new album of their own. Attack & Release thus became The Black Keys’ first collaborative effort as it morphed into their own album with Danger Mouse as producer. By recording in an actual studio (another first), Auerbach and Carney were given the opportunity to add a variety of instruments to their usual simple set-up—including organ, moog, and banjo.
Lovingly Taken From; Nonesuch Records

Links;
The Black Keys - Live at the Crystal Ballroom
The Black Keys @ MySpace
The Black Keys
Nonesuch Records

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1NlORXCQzGk/Svw5JYGtC4I/AAAAAAAADc8/XK61Op4mjUI/s400/l_e37733fd193488f293a5a683911f44b8.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5403256486189927298" />

{"$t":"mr.A
$t":"http://www.blogger.com/profile/00018673627499402349
$t":"noreply@blogger.com"},"gd$extendedProperty":{"xmlns$gd":"http://schemas.google.com/g/2005
OpenSocialUserId
01581069094881406001"}}],"media$thumbnail":{"xmlns$media":"http://search.yahoo.com/mrss/
"thr$total":{"xmlns$thr":"http://purl.org/syndication/thread/1.0","$t":"0
$t":"tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24482091.post-3033145383277869150
$t":"2009-11-22T00:26:00.002+01:00
$t":"2009-11-22T00:26:00.130+01:00
"$t":"Guru Guru
html","$t":"Guru Guru's third album is easily my favorite from the band, and probably one of my favorite German albums overall. After hinting at a more focused approach on their last album, Hinten, Guru Guru resurfaces as a tightly wound ensemble centered around some serious grooves and earth shattering riffs. Indeed, KanGuru is certainly the most accessible of the first three albums. Driving guitar and bass themes create massive walls of sound that can easily compete with Black Sabbath in the heaviness department. Of course, Guru Guru doesn't take themselves nearly as seriously, and counter this with exhilarating guitar runs, intense, unrestrained jams and nonsensical lyrics. The only caveat here I suppose is the prominence of the vocals, which I love, but many might see as unnecessarily goofy. For me, Uli Trepte's eccentric grunts and warbles perfectly accent the mountainous grooves contained herein.

"Oxymoron" is a kick ass opener, highlighted by a stunted, addictive main riff accentuated by a rhythmic vocal motif. "Immer Lustig" is the piece that most recalls UFO, with wide, abstract brushstrokes of sound. "Baby Cake Walk" and "Ooga Booga" are where the album really hits "classic" status for me. These tracks just kill. Explosive guitar runs and surging, heavy-as-fuck bass riffs along with that off the wall, percussive vocal warble. An incredibly eccentric album that remains fairly accessible, although the more adventurous listener will perhaps find UFO even more invigorating. In my book, KanGuru stands as a true blue Krautrock classic.
Lovingly Taken From; Greg Northrup [January 2002]

Links;
Guru Guru - Känguru
Guru Guru @ MySpace
Guru Guru

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 350px; height: 350px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1NlORXCQzGk/SwL5XYyffDI/AAAAAAAADfk/3qwg17l3KRI/s400/Kanguru.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5405156682984553522" />

{"$t":"mr.A
$t":"http://www.blogger.com/profile/00018673627499402349
$t":"noreply@blogger.com"},"gd$extendedProperty":{"xmlns$gd":"http://schemas.google.com/g/2005
OpenSocialUserId
01581069094881406001"}}],"media$thumbnail":{"xmlns$media":"http://search.yahoo.com/mrss/
"thr$total":{"xmlns$thr":"http://purl.org/syndication/thread/1.0","$t":"4
$t":"tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24482091.post-2233601213179000437
$t":"2009-11-21T12:39:00.001+01:00
$t":"2009-11-21T12:39:00.475+01:00
"$t":"Daughters of the Sun
html","$t":"Focus is an important element of a lot of today’s subgenres of music, and I can think of no better theme with which to initiate this review of Daughters of the Sun’s “Rings.” Partly a strong record of weirdo guitar/vocal/electronic psychedelia and partly an oddly placed selection of otherwise great field recordings from India, “Rings” is a record that seems to almost too diverse, awkwardly jutting askew in too many directions for its own good. I’m torn between being enamored with their potential outside the comfy amenities of the studio and the reality of a band struggling with the challenge of performing such a processed music live—though I can think of similar bands who do it and do it well. But there have been exceptions. I recall Faust falling flat on their naked asses in Atlanta—and it was a sad but comic thing to behold. This challenge isn’t a bad thing; and DOTS is far from a bad band/recording project—not even close. There are plenty of great moments here, breathtaking peaks even, but there are also times which seem to suggest all the dots aren’t quite connected yet—that a unifying direction has yet to be defined and I think it has to do with sequencing the field recordings at the end of the CD which ultimately gives the record a stitched-together feel.

True, there are several extraordinary heights during this portion of the disc, but unfortunately they come off as an arbitrary inclusion into a fairly anomalous rock record and add no real contrast, compliment or relevance. Ostentatious is probably too strong a word, but instead of these field recordings lending themselves to the greater whole of the album, the end result seems more like patchwork than a fluid trip guided by a greater, more sophisticated (or if you prefer, totally fucked) concept. The record is shy of possible greatness because of a misplaced jigsaw piece from another box. The field recordings here stymie an otherwise oddball document of stylish, weirdo anti-pop fuzz n huzz. But that’s my only beef, and DOTS’ “Rings” deserves a wealth of attention.
Lovingly Taken From; Foxy Digitalis

Links;
Daughters of the Sun - Rings
Daughters of the Sun @ MySpace
Daughters of the Sun
MODERN RADIO

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1NlORXCQzGk/SwbwySQ1EyI/AAAAAAAADjc/kSleSZMeC18/s400/cover.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5406273149391409954" />

{"$t":"mr.A
$t":"http://www.blogger.com/profile/00018673627499402349
$t":"noreply@blogger.com"},"gd$extendedProperty":{"xmlns$gd":"http://schemas.google.com/g/2005
OpenSocialUserId
01581069094881406001"}}],"media$thumbnail":{"xmlns$media":"http://search.yahoo.com/mrss/
"thr$total":{"xmlns$thr":"http://purl.org/syndication/thread/1.0","$t":"0
$t":"tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24482091.post-8984322291020784963
$t":"2009-11-21T00:08:00.006+01:00
$t":"2009-11-22T15:57:21.049+01:00
"$t":"Topaz Rags
html","$t":"Amanda from Pocahaunted joins Robedoor for this first full-length as Topaz Rags, and the album's a real winner, kicking off with 'Darker Sooner' sounding like a Portishead album recorded over the phone. Neu! always displayed a split personality, rooted in the conflicting temperaments and sensibilities of Dinger and guitarist Michael Rother, differences that were dramatized on the duo's final record, where Rother's mellower, melodic atmospherics contrasted with Dinger's anarchic, noisier inclinations. Recorded in 1975, La Düsseldorf's self-titled debut effects something of a compromise between those two aesthetics. Built on driving beats and fleshed out with expansive synth coloring, the 13-minute "Düsseldorf" is a grand, pop-friendly homage to Dinger's hometown.

Although its repetitive glide recalls Neu!'s signature Motorik groove, there's something more playful and joyous about Dinger's approach here, especially at the moments when the vocals venture briefly into mock operatics and a glammy piano hammers away. The title track involves similar sonic ingredients but puts them to more concise and aggressive use. As with Neu!'s "Hero" and "After Eight," Dinger injects this song with a speedy, sloganeering rush that anticipates punk; at the same time, though, its incorporation of a soccer-crowd chant seems almost a prescient parody of the brainless variant of punk that would later turn the movement into self-caricature. Indeed, while Dinger was punk avant la lettre, he already had a foot in the post-punk era, something that's most evident on "Silver Cloud" and "Time." These tracks are more minimalist, looking forward to the pared-down, monochromatic austerity that would follow punk's color-cartoon demise. On "Time," an oceanic ebb and flow and somber church-organ sounds eventually yield to a hypnotic, nodding pulse. The album's standout, the mesmerizing instrumental "Silver Cloud," sees prominent synths and mechanical rhythms impart a cool electronic aura that certainly resonated with Bowie and made its presence felt on his Berlin recordings.
Lovingly Taken From; AMG

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1NlORXCQzGk/SwbKONOG_nI/AAAAAAAADi0/XdW-mmca01c/s400/la-dusseldorf-la-dusseldorf-1976.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5406230748120678002" />

Links;
La Düsseldorf - La Düsseldorf
La Düsseldorf @ MySpace
La Düsseldorf @ Wiki

{"$t":"mr.A
$t":"http://www.blogger.com/profile/00018673627499402349
$t":"noreply@blogger.com"},"gd$extendedProperty":{"xmlns$gd":"http://schemas.google.com/g/2005
OpenSocialUserId
01581069094881406001"}}],"media$thumbnail":{"xmlns$media":"http://search.yahoo.com/mrss/
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1NlORXCQzGk/SwbKONOG_nI/AAAAAAAADi0/XdW-mmca01c/s72-c/la-dusseldorf-la-dusseldorf-1976.jpg
72
72"},"thr$total":{"xmlns$thr":"http://purl.org/syndication/thread/1.0","$t":"0
$t":"tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24482091.post-1252460856678930837
$t":"2009-11-20T20:15:00.005+01:00
$t":"2009-11-20T20:24:38.096+01:00
"$t":"Cave
html","$t":"After their awesome album ‘Psychic Psummer that you can buy on Important Records Cave bring you a other release this year. At the helm is righteously-bearded guitarist/vocalist Arthur Seay, whose delivery reminds of one-time Unida frontman John Garcia but comes on unhinged and confrontational where the former Kyuss/current Hermano singer was more controlled. Both Plasciencia and Cancino contribute vocals as well. Hand-claps, gang shouts and a low in the mix female orgasm permeate “Obey the Snake,” in the first demonstration of House of Broken Promises’ commercial tendencies, which pop up again later on “Torn,” where the central riff follows a progression similar to Corrosion of Conformity’s “Shake Like You” while the vocals take a turn in the direction of Skid Row’s “18 and Life.” If this song doesn’t end up in a video game somewhere, there’s no justice in the universe.

Someone needs to tell Arthur his cheek is about to get licked. (Photo by Rick Kosick)Though the ground covered lyrically is largely typical of the stoner breadth — see “Physco Plex,” “Buried Away” and “Walk on By” — that Seay as a songwriter would tend toward rigid verse/chorus structures isn’t necessarily surprising. The influences House of Broken Promises are straightforward and Seay’s time working as a guitar tech for Slipknot is bound to have an effect on his drive one way or the other. Not to say the band is nü-metal in any way, shape or form, just that if the landscape of radio rock saw fit to include stoner bands, these guys would already be huge. A soundtrack made from the residue left after a subterranean dowsing for the echoes of collapsing stars. These disembodied post-transmissions form up in a Minerva’s Web of sunken Titanic ghosts, slow moaning as from distant caverns. Disc one of the set, “Tezcatlipoca” is the actual collapsing of stars. Or, perhaps the exploding majesty of every day’s new sun being reborn, as it once again defeats those Xibilba’s and rises to arc through its dominion again. This monstrous soul goes from grumbling angrily to mowing the heavens. Parts even cross into early Swans territory with aggressively fractured pacing. <img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1NlORXCQzGk/SwWQ5fWRsYI/AAAAAAAADg0/u8sG0G0Ppcw/s400/jaguarsuncd.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5405886245070025090" />But all roads lead to the final track which is an epic length doom metal anthem of sweating proportions. Wave after wave of crushing fuzz slowly pummel speakers into diamonds and rust. A relentless solar rotorvating blasterpiece. Which brings us to part 3 of this 2 CD set. Both CD’s have been composed to also be played simultaneously, in a much more useable fashion than the Zaireekas of the world. So, if “Tezcatlipoca” is overground and “Quetzalcoatl” is underground (or, more likely, the reverse) their combination must be all things….and no things. Maybe the sound of the end of things.
